MOOSIC, PA- Early home runs by L.J. Talley and Nathan Lukes help the Buffalo Bisons defeat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 5-3 Friday night at PNC Field.

Following a nearly two hour rain delay, L.J. Talley got the ball rolling for the Herd, as his solo shot to right center field would give the Bisons an early 1-0 lead in the second inning.

The home runs wouldn’t stop there however, as Nathan Lukes would blast his second of the year to left center field in the third inning, furthering Buffalo’s lead to 2-0.

In his 14th start of the year, right -handed pitcher Zach Thompson had yet another solid outing for the Bisons, throwing four strikeouts and allowing only one hit across five innings pitched. The righty earned his fourth win of the season, evening his season record to 4-4.

Talley continued his strong night, bolstering a single to right field in the sixth inning, allowing Spencer Horwitz to score and upping the lead to 3-0.

In the eighth inning, the utility man continued his strong night at the plate, recording his third hit by singling to right field and scoring Davis Schneider, furthering the Bisons lead to 4-0. The ball was misplayed by Brandon Lockridge, preventing Talley from recording his third RBI of the game.

Cameron Eden also recorded his 30th stolen base of the season when he stole second off of Aaron McGarity. It moved the speedy outfielder into a tie for 10th place on the team’s modern era single-season stolen base list with Carlos Garcia.

With men on first and third, Jamie Ritchie would then ground into a force out, however Talley was able to score and make it 5-0.

The RailRiders wouldn’t go down without a fight though, as Max Burt singled to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning, allowing Michael Hermosillo to score, shortening the lead to 5-1.

Jamie Westbrook would then ground into a force out, advancing Brandon Lockridge home, narrowing the lead, 5-2.

Hermosillo would hit a solo shot to center field in the bottom of the ninth for the RailRiders to trim the deficit to 5-3. However Matt Peacock was able to secure the final two outs and notch his second save for the Bisons in the process.

The Herd will continue the series on Saturday evening against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Wes Parsons is set to get the nod for the Herd for a scheduled 6:05 p.m. start.
