NIAGARA UNIVERSITY — Niagara Men’s Basketball Head Coach Greg Paulus has announced the promotion of Kevin Devitt to Associate Head Coach.

Devitt joined the Niagara men’s basketball staff in August of 2020 and has since made an impact in recruiting, scouting, student-athlete development, and student-athlete advisement during his tenure.

“Kevin has done an outstanding job at Niagara University,” said Paulus. “His work ethic and development of our student-athletes both on and off the court has been an integral part of our program’s success. He has earned greater responsibility within our staff and program, and we are excited for his continued impact in the future.”

This past summer, Devitt was selected to participate in the prestigious 2022 TopConnect Basketball Symposium presented by Teamworks and INFLCR at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada.

Devitt was also named to the Silver Waves Media Most Impactful Mid Major Assistant Coaches in D1 Men’s Basketball and served as the keynote speaker at the Rising Coaches Conference in Chicago.

On the court, Devitt has helped Niagara earn back-to-back first round bye’s at the MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship for the first time since 2008 and 2009, while also mentoring multiple All-MAAC selections, including first team selection, Marcus Hammond in 2021-22.

“I am humbled and honored for this opportunity,” said Devitt. “Coach Paulus has played a large role in my development as a coach over the past two years. I am excited for the future of the Niagara basketball program and look forward to working with our outstanding coaching staff and student-athletes for the years to come.”

Before arriving on Monteagle Ridge, Devitt spent four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Devitt’s responsibilities include recruiting, scouting, player development, and advising. While in Birmingham, the Blazers won 76 games, including consecutive 20-win seasons (2017-18 & 2018-19); and a trip to the CBI.

Devitt was also influential in bringing in two Rivals.com nationally recognized mid-major recruiting classes. Coupled with on-court success, UAB earned Academic Performance Public recognition for having its Academic Progress Rate (APR) ranked in the top 10 percent in the country during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.
