
DALLAS, Pa.— Buffalo State netted a pair of second-half goals to erase a halftime deficit and remain unbeaten with a 2-1 victory over Franklin this afternoon on the opening day of the Misericordia Tournament.
Franklin opened the scoring in the 24th minute and held the 1-0 advantage at the intermission after a fairly evenly played first 45 minutes.
The Bengals took control in the second stanza and evened the score in the 59th minute on a goal by Catherine Mammoser (Lackawanna/Eden). Jenna Smolinski (Hamburg/Hamburg) tallied the game-winner in the 72nd minute when she capitalized on a rebound assist from Breanna Knight (Valley Stream/Valley Stream South). Knight’s initial shot was set up by a flip throw by Alexis Carillo (Pine Bush/Pine Bush).
The Bengals outshot the Grizzlies 21-9 for the game, including 14-4 in the second half. Freshman Taylor Carillo (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) made six saves in goal for the victory.
Buffalo State will close out the tournament Sunday against host Misericordia at 2:30 p.m.
