The Canisius swimming and Diving teams competed in the Rochester Invite Saturday afternoon, winning their dual meets 471 – 114 against Brandeis University, and 362 – 235 over the University of Rochester.

The women’s standings saw the Griffs top Brandeis 233 – 56, while edging the University of Rochester 161 – 138. For the men, Canisius outgained Brandeis 238 – 58 and topped host Rochester 362 – 235.

The men’s diving team finished with the top two slots in the one and three meter, as Travis Wright and Brent Carbone placed one and two respectively, with Josh Larcome placing third in the three meter event. With the performance, Carbone will join Wright at the NCAA zone diving qualifiers.

Vivian Mroz was the highest ranked diver for the women, coming in first place in the women’s one meter and placing second in the three meter event.

The team of Cassie Brousseau, Marrisa Watroba, Alize Allen and Rebecca Anthone placed first in the women’s 400 yard medley, with Greg Staebell, Tommy Kirch, Dan Dirrigl and Cam Macdonald getting the top spot on the men’s side

Anthone swam well for the women, finishing first in the 200 and 500 free, and was a part of a first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.

Marissa Watroba placed first in three events, the 400 yard individual medley (4:47.10), the 100 yard breaststroke (1:07.76) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:28.78).

Several other Golden Griffins would win their respective events including, Brousseau in the 200 yard backstroke (2:12.23) and Meghan Tyler in the 100 yard butterfly (1:02.91).

For the men, Staebell had a strong showing with a first place effort in the 100 yard back (53.83) and 200 yard back (1:58.43), while Wyatt Sintay placed first in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke, with times of 1:00.44 and 2:16.70 respectively.

Also finishing in a top position for the men were Dirrigl in the 200 yard butterfly (1:58.39) and 500 free (5:00.84), Macdonald in the 50 free (21.97) and Kenyon Winkyy in the 100 yard butterfly (53.18).

The Golden Griffins will next turn their attention to Geneseo, who they will face in their home opening meet Saturday from the Flickinger Center.
