The Canisius College swimming and diving program was swept by rival St. Bonaventure Sunday afternoon from the Burt Flickinger Center, with the men losing 167-131, while the women fell to the Bonnies by a score of 158-142.
Senior Rebecca Anthone won three individual events on the day including the 200 freestyle (1:56.39), the 100 yard free (53.71), and the 500 yard freestyle (5:17.32).

Anthone was also a part of the winning 200 yard freestyle team of freshmen Ashlynn Gilfillan, Alize Allen and senior Hannah Graesser (1:40.17).

Allen rounded out the winning for the women’s side, getting the top time in the 50 freestyle at 24.89.

Sophomore James Pokornowski won the men’s 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:10.23, with teammate junior Colin Zapisek trailing close behind in second place at 10:11.72.

Also winning for the men were seniors Gustavo Dos Santos in 200 freestyle (1:45.85), Christian Westermeir in the 50 freestyle (21.66), and junior Greg Staebell in the 200 yard backstroke (1:56.52).

Sophomore Vivian Mroz won both the one and three meter women’s diving events with scores of 239.10 and 243.23, while junior Travis Wright swept the men’s diving events with scores of 326.55 in the one meter and 339.53 in the three meter event.

The loss to the Bonnies marks the second consecutive season the Griffs have been swept by St. Bonaventure. With the losses, the men’s team moves to 3-2 overall while the women are now 1-4 to begin the season.

The Blue and Gold will swim again at 1 p.m. Saturday when the team hosts Binghamton from the Burt Flickinger Center in the team’s senior day celebration.
