BUFFALO — As it turns out, the Jack-Eichel-led Sabres are beatable — much to the chagrin of Sabres fans everywhere. Buffalo lost 2-1 at the hands of the Boston Bruins this afternoon at KeyBank Center.
Boston’s David Krejci opened the scoring 14:10 into the first period, assisted by Brandon Carlo and David Backes.
What appeared to be a game-tying goal by Brian Gionta at 17:10 of the second was waived off.
The Sabres headed into the third down 1-0. Patrice Bergeron then made it 2-0, Boston at 7:44 of the third, assisted by David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand. Evander Kane’s first goal of the season at 9:12 brought the Sabres back within one. Sam Rainhart assisted. Unfortunately that’s where the scoring stopped.
NOTES:
- Today’s loss dropped the Sabres to 3-1-1 in their last four games at home and 4-2-1 in their last seven games.
- Brendan Guhle logged 16:20 of ice time and a plus-1 rating in his first NHL game today, leading all Sabres with seven shot attempts and tying for the team lead with four shots on goal.
- Evander Kane’s goal gives him a three-game point streak (1+2).
- With an assist on Kane’s goal, Sam Reinhart now has points in four straight games played (2+3) for the second time in his career.
