ATHENS, Ohio – The University at Buffalo wrestling team dropped its Mid-American Conference opener to Ohio, 25-9, at the Convocation Center on Sunday afternoon. The Bulls fell behind early and just couldn’t recover.

Ohio won the first three matches of the day to jump out to a 10-0 lead. Colt Cotten got the Bulls on the board at 149 with a 7-5 decision over Kade Kowalski. It was Cotten’s first dual win of the year after losing three tough bouts to start the season.

Brett Perry earned an 11-9 decision over Hunter Yeargan at 184 for his second dual win of the year. It cut the Ohio advantage to 22-6.

UB’s final points came via Jake Gunning as the redshirt-sophomore heavyweight won an 8-3 decision over Zak Parker. Gunning stayed perfect on the season, improving to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in duals.

“It was a not good day for us,” head coach John Stutzman said. “Consistency is important and we are not consistent. We need to go back to the drawing board and figure out a way to compete with a tough Kent State team coming up.”

The Bulls will host the Golden Flashes in the home opener next Sunday.
