NIAGARA UNIV. — The Niagara women’s basketball team dropped a tough game to conference opponent Rider on Sunday afternoon.

The Broncs took a quick lead to begin the game, going on a 15-5 run. Stroemple hit a jumper with a little over four minutes remaining to cut Rider’s lead, 15-7. With 2:05 remaining in the first quarter, Corselli sank a three to bring the Purple Eagles within 10 points of the lead, 20-10. Jai Moore opened scoring in the second quarter, scoring two to put the score at 22-14 with Rider still in the lead. With a little under seven minutes remaining, Corselli hit another 3-pointer and Baughman sank a three with 4:20 remaining to once again bring Niagara within 10 points of the lead, 30-20.
Corselli made her third 3-point shot of the game with 59 seconds left in the third quarter. Two free throws from Victoria Rampado to end the quarter put the score at 53-39 going into the fourth.
With a little over seven minutes remaining, Jamie Sherburne sank a 3-pointer and Baughman hit three consecutive threes within one minute to cut the Broncs’ lead, 69-57.

The Purple Eagles resume non-conference play on Wednesday when they host Hartford at 7 p.m. Following Hartford, Niagara takes on No. 21/20 Syracuse at the Carrier Dome on Saturday at 3 p.m.
