STONY BROOK — Maggie Gerard and Morgan Palmer continued their strong seasons as the Purple Eagles finished fifth at the Wolfie Invitational hosted by Stony Brook University.
Freshman Morgan Palmer won the shot put and discus throw to give Niagara 19 points. Palmer set a personal best with a 12.07m toss in the shot put, while breaking her own school record in the discus (41.05m). Maggie Gerard finished second in the shot put (11.37m) and Erin Clark finished with a personal best toss of 8.23m. Gerard also finished fifth in the discus (33.97m). Jamie Guadagno placed seventh in the long jump (4.81m).
Caroline Hampton finished 22nd out of 44 runners in the 1500m with a time of 5:01.80. Freshman Alex Laubert and Savia Moreland finished seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 100m hurdles
Megan Helf (11:37.22), Mallory Ronan (11:41.91) and Julia Freemire (11:47.38) all set personal bests in the 3000m. Mara Skordynski led NU in the 400m dash with a 13th place finish. Freshman Akira Thornton placed 10th in the 100m (12.86). Sarah Grubbs finished 11th out of 31 runners in the 800m (2:25.46). Maggie Doyle (26.64) placed 17th out of 39 runners followed by Kelly Nichols (26.78) in the 200m.
As a team, Niagara finished fifth ahead of Marist, St. John’s and Hofstra.
The Purple Eagles will compete in their next meet at the University at Buffalo on April 29.
