Hello Metalheads! This is John back with another album review! I know I just covered their second single the other day, but The Elysian Void dropped their new album! The Fatal Conceit came out today August 20th, 2026 and it rips.
This trio of Connor McNamee, Ethan McKenna and Nick Shaw have out done them selves again. If those names ring a bell, they also released under the moniker Subterranean Lava Dragon last year and that was fantastic as well. They have Jerry Shaw on vocals for this project as well as their previous release under the name Minarchist and that was stellar too. I don’t know how these guys released two really great albums in a year and a half!
Now onto the music! This album is densely packed and full of big and small details. It took me quite a few listens just to get my baring and get a roadmap of the album. These guys really manage to switch things up quite a bit and in ways that make sense. I really like when bands done have a typical song structure like in this progressive format!
My favorite track is A Future Discarded, but I already covered that, so I’ll highlight another track that I really enjoyed. Sins Of The Father is another stand out track to me for many reasons. One of the many things that stuck out to me is the way one of the main riffs and the clean singing melodies mirror each other. The clean singing is over this almost folk section and has an added section of melody. The main riff by the guitars sounds faster because of the blast beats underneath but is drawn out a little more. Those small little details are some of the coolest things to find in music!
So overall I would give A Fatal Conceit a 9/10 on my personal ranking scale. It’s one hell of an album from The Elysian Void and I can’t wait to hear what any of the members have in store, let alone more from this lineup!
