UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS
BUFFALO, N.Y. — For the second time in as many meets UB junior Caleb Covell was able to collect an individual victory for the Bulls in the men’s 8k event, propelling the UB men to a second overall finish in the UB Stampede Invitational while the women’s team placed sixth.
The UB men were able to claim the second spot in the standings finishing just behind Cornell. Buffalo was led by a strong individual effort from Covell, who claimed an individual victory by crossing over the line in first with an impressive time of 25:01.9. Covell was able to add on to his already impressive 2018 campaign after he also led the Bulls with an individual victory in the first race of the season, the Toledo Rocket Invite, finishing first in the men’s 6k event with a time of 18:33.00 on his way to MAC Runner of the Week honors.
Junior William Hilbert also had a strong showing for the Bulls, placing fourth with a time of 25:18.8 with freshman Cal Puskar (25:39.6) and sophomore Thomas Flannery (25:40.9) crossing the line just behind in 11th and 12th respectively. Buffalo sophomore Christopher Nowak also finished among the top-20, placing 18th with a time of 26:21.0.
In the women’s 6k event, the youthful Bulls came away with sixth place overall and were led by freshman Riley Jones, who crossed the line in 30th with a time of 22:53.1 in just her second collegiate race. Senior Lauren Reydaalso had a strong day for Buffalo finishing in 34th in a field of 111 runners and clocking in at 23:03.2.
Both UB teams look to build on their start to the season in two weeks as they head to Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA on Saturday, September 29 for the Paul Short Invite.
