
The national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.05, up one cent from last Monday. One year ago, the price was $3.13. The New York State average is $3.11, down two cents from last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.21. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
- Batavia – $3.12 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
- Buffalo – $3.16 (no change from last Monday)
- Rochester – $3.16 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
Gas prices remained relatively quiet this past week. The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has been fluctuating by a couple of cents. Even though the national average hasn’t reached the $3 mark, drivers are paying less than they were this time last year, and that trend should continue as we enter the colder months. Gasoline demand goes down in the fall as fewer people are taking road trips.
This morning oil is trading in the $61-$65 range per barrel. According to the Energy Information Administration, gas demand remains flat at 8.45 million barrels per day. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 218.8 million barrels to 216.7 million. Gasoline production is up, averaging 9.6 million barrels per day.
Diesel prices are stable. The national average is $3.66 – up 4 cents from last week. The New York average is $3.87, no change from last week.
When it comes to EV charging, the national and state averages for L2 commercial electricity remain steady. Today’s national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station stands at 38 cents. New York’s rate is 36 cents. The state has approximately 12,829 chargers. An estimated 1.2 million AAA members live in households with one or more electric vehicles.
To conserve fuel, motorists should map routes, avoid peak traffic times like rush hour, and combine errands into one trip while using cruise control when possible. Drivers should also make sure tire pressure is at the vehicle’s recommended level for the best gas mileage while removing any unnecessary and bulky items from the car since it takes more fuel to accelerate a heavy vehicle.
