Stability is the name of the game to start October with the national average for a gallon of regular almost the same as it was one week ago at $3.14. Tis the season for lower gas prices as demand drops and gas stations make the switch to winter-blend gasoline which is cheaper to produce. Crude oil supply remains robust as OPEC+ – a group of oil-producing countries – is likely to announce in the coming days another production increase in November. That surplus coupled with weaker demand is keeping pump prices down, even as some U.S. refineries are expected to go offline this month for seasonal maintenance.

Meanwhile, oil prices remain steady in the low to mid $60s per barrel. According to data from the Energy Information Administration, gas demand is down slightly while supply is up, and production is on the decline.

Diesel prices are stable. The national average $3.68 – seeing no change from last week. The New York average is $3.89, only down a penny.

When it comes to EV charging, the national and state averages for L2 commercial electricity remain steady. Today’s national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station stands at 37 cents. New York’s rate is 36 cents. The state has approximately 12,829 chargers. To conserve fuel, motorists should map routes, avoid peak traffic times like rush hour, and combine errands into one trip while using cruise control when possible. Drivers should also make sure tire pressure is at the vehicle’s recommended level for the best gas mileage while removing any unnecessary and bulky items from the car since it takes more fuel to accelerate a heavy vehicle.
