Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Alan P. Bulera, 49, of Cheektowaga, pleaded guilty this afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to one count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree (Class “C” felony). The defendant entered the guilty plea to the second count in full satisfaction of the indictment. 

On Sunday, August 11, 2024, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the defendant was driving his SUV at a high rate of speed eastbound on Clinton Street when he caused a rear-end collision with a minivan at the intersection of Borden Road in the Town of West Seneca. The defendant and the other driver were taken by ambulance to ECMC. The defendant recklessly caused the death of the driver of the minivan. The victim, 76-year-old Irene Mair of West Seneca, was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Bulera faces a maximum of 15 years in prison when he is sentenced on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. The defendant continues to be held on bail set at $350,000 cash or bond. His New York State driver’s license remains temporarily suspended.

DA Keane commends Officer Matthew Greenan and members of the West Seneca Police Department Accident Investigation Unit for their work in this investigation as well as victim advocate Cathy Mitchell.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Bethany A. Solek of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau.
