Led by second-place finishes from senior Kyle Urban and sophomore Clara Sundberg, the Canisius men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2025 season Saturday in the Little Three Championships at Joyce Field in Olean, N.Y.
In the annual race that pits the Golden Griffins against regional rivals Niagara and St. Bonaventure, the Canisius men claimed their 19th straight crown as it finished with a team total of 22 points, nearly double that of the second-place Bonnies (39). The Griffs claimed third in the women’s race with a team total of 48 points, five back of second-place St. Bona
A native of Alden, N.Y., Urban crossed the finish line with a time of 14:44.6, placing just behind Clay Peets of St. Bonaventure (14:28.0). It marked the second consecutive top-three finish for Urban at the Little Three after posting a third-place finish in last year’s race at Delaware Park.
Canisius had six more runners place in the top 10 as freshman Nathaniel Fisher (14:52.4) took fourth and junior Brody Jones (14:55.9) finished right behind him in fifth.
