
Dominick M. ‘Mickey’ Rizzo, 89, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility surrounded by his loving family. Born in Central City, PA, he was the son of the late Angelo C. and Lena (Barrecca) Rizzo.
Mickey came to the Niagara Falls area as a child with his family, and was a 1954 graduate of Trott Vocational High School. He proudly served in the United States Army as an Ordnance Officer until his honorable discharge in 1964. On November 18, 1961, Mickey married Gilda B. (Celeste) Rizzo at St. Joseph Church. After he served in the Army, Mickey was employed as a carpenter with Scrufari Construction Co. in Niagara Falls, NY. He later worked for the Niagara Falls Board of Education for 28 years as a Master Carpenter and Head of the Carpentry Shop from 1962 until his retirement in 1991. He also enjoyed remodeling kitchens as a side job.
Mickey was a member of the Carpenter’s Local #322. He was also a Lifetime Active 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #247, a member of Dante’s Social Club, and a Board Member of the Niagara County SPCA for 28 years. Mickey enjoyed cooking, woodworking, and refurbishing statues. Above all, Dominick will be remembered as a good man with a big heart who loved and cherished his family.
In addition to his beloved wife of 63 years, Dominick is survived by his daughter, Michele A. Rizzo; his siblings, Frances (late Stanley) Koshinski, Verna (late Biagio) Grossi, MaryAnn (late Douglas) Pike, and Joseph (Maria) Rizzo; his brother-in-law, Albert (Rosemary) Celeste, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings, Selma (late Hamish) Hamilton, Anthony (late Thelma) Rizzo, Angelo (late Rose) Rizzo, Samuel Rizzo, Nancy (late Dominic) Farbo, Adelphine (late Tony) Mastrolembo, Lena (late John) Scrivani; two infant siblings, Saviero and Adolph Rizzo; and his brothers and sister-in-law, Louis (late Antoinette) Marino, Josephine (late Frank) Metro, and Anthony (late Donna) Celeste.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28 from 3 – 7 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304, where funeral services will begin on Saturday at 9:15 AM followed by Dominick’s Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, 14301. Entombment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY, with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/.
