Thomas Silvey Jr., 87, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on December 8, 2023 at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas and Rose (Rufran) Silvey Sr.
Tom attended local schools, and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1953. In 1958, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in General Business Administration from the University of Buffalo, and later a certificate from Niagara University in Advanced Cost Accounting in 1959, as well as a certificate in Electronic Data Processing from the University of Buffalo in 1965. Tom attended an Air Force ROTC Summer Training in 1956 at Ethan Allen AFB in Winooski, VT.
Tom was employed as an Accounting and Cost Supervisor with Moore Business Forms from 1959 until 1970, where he served as the Treasurer for the employee credit union. Tom also worked as a Comptroller for an Aircraft Lighting, Packaging and Real Estate Conglomerate and as an Office Manager for several local construction firms. In his later years, Tom worked with his brother Richard on the Sunnycrest Dairy truck delivering dairy products to homes and businesses in Niagara Falls. Sunnycrest was the business his father founded in the late 1930’s.
Tom enjoyed annual sailing excursions with his friends in the Caribbean. Tom’s passion was winemaking with his father and brother. Everyone waited for the Silvey homemade wine each year at Christmas. He loved his family and his most famous saying was “I love my nieces to pieces.”
Thomas is survived by his nieces, Jean Calabrese, Mary Centofanti, Rosemary (Jeffrey) Randolph and Marilyn (late Albert) Centofanti; his nephews, Thomas (Cynthia) Centofanti, John (Kathy) Zullo Jr., and Robert (Netty) Zullo; his great-nieces, Sara (Tyler) Perry, Lora (Kevin) Thornton, Dana (Curtis) Saueressig, and Jen (Jean Bagtasos) Randolph; great-nephews, Daniel Maday, Joseph Calabrese, Nicholas Calabrese, Armand (Kayla) Remillard, Jason (Sumeyye) Zullo, and Michael (Nicole Huynh) Randolph; his great-great nieces, Adeline, Charlotte, Mia, Tana and Celeste; his great-great nephews, Victor, Jordan, Luke, Giovanni, Antonio and Nico, as well as cousins Fr. William Persia, CSC and Mimi Persia. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Betty (late John) Zullo, Richard Anthony Silvey, Mildred (late Albert) Centofanti; his late infant brothers, Anthony and William Silvey; his niece, Margaret (late Michael) Piecuil, and nephews, Fred Zullo and Albert Centofanti.
The family would like to thank the First-Floor staff of Schoellkopf Nursing Home for their empathy and care of Tom for the past three years. Their kindness, understanding and professionalism is truly appreciated.
Thomas’ Mass of Christian Burial and Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY, will be held in the Spring of 2024 at a future date to be announced.
