SYRACUSE, NY – The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards on Monday afternoon, selecting Buffalo State goaltender Marcus Cumberworth (Surrey, BC/Olds Grizzlys) as the Goalie of the Week and forward Vadim Kiriakov (Tyumen, Russia/Altay Ust-Kamenogorsk) as the Player of the Week. The duo helped lead Buffalo State to a 2-0-0 weekend in SUNYAC action, including an upset victory over No. 2 Plattsburgh State.
Cumberworth starred in goal for the Bengals over the weekend, backstopping Buffalo State to a 2-0-0 record. The freshman netminder recorded a .953 save percentage with 81 saves on 85 shots on goal, a 2.00 goals against average and one shutout. On Friday evening, Cumberworth made a career-high 41 saves and a .911 save percentage to lead the Bengals to a 6-4 win. He followed that performance up with a perfect showing on Saturday in a 5-0 win over Potsdam, stopping all 40 shots he faced to record his first career shutout. The goalie also added his first career point with an assist for Buffalo State as well.
Kiriakov was the top performer on offense for the Bengals, scoring five points on two goals and three assists, while recording a +3 on-ice rating. On Friday evening in the aforementioned 6-4 upset victory over No. 2 Plattsburgh State, Kiriakov scored a goal and added two assists, while recording an on-ice rating of +1. He had a second multi-point night on Saturday in a 5-0 win over Potsdam, assisting the game-winning goal and then scoring the final goal of the game on a breakaway.
