Emma Mary Garcia, 93, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2023, at Schoellkopf Health Center. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Celestino and Maria Louisa (Lorenzo) Garcia Sr.

Emma was a force of nature!  A beautiful and strong woman!  She never let her dual disability stop her from pursuing her many passions, including painting, drawing, sewing and dancing, or from confidently interacting with the hearing world.  She is perhaps best and most widely known for her baking!  Wedding and special occasion cakes and a favorite cookie – pizzelles!  She was also known for her sense of style.

Emma graduated from St Mary’s School for the Deaf in Buffalo, where she met her former husband Frank A. Critelli. Emma was a member of the Buffalo Club of the Deaf and the Volare Lodge. Emma is a past recipient of a BCD Community Recognition Award.

Emma was hardworking and held various jobs here in Niagara Falls. She also lived in California for 10 years where she worked for Litton Industries. She was also a devout Catholic and member of Prince of Peace Church.

Emma is survived by her loving children – Grace Maria Pignataro (James), Christopher Critelli (Mary), Mario Critelli (Karen) and Louisa Cousins (Robert).  Grandchildren – James (Arisa)  & Joseph (Victoria) Pignataro, Christopher B. Critelli & Ali (Anthony) Cosentino, Nicole (Stewart) Munroe & Genna Critelli, and Ryan (Christina) Cousins & Rachel (Matthew) Fresco.   Great Grandchildren:   Eva and Claire Pignataro, Leo and Emma Pignataro, Miles Munroe, Gianna and Nico Cosentino.  Her brother – Celestino (Frances) Garcia and many nieces & nephews.  She was predeceased by her daughter Vincenette, her sister, Elvira (Anthony) Fera, and her dear friend – Lewis Seyler.  Of special mention is her lifetime friend – Rose McKinnon, who has been a faithful visitor to Emma during her time at Schoellkopf.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the kind & compassionate care by the Schoellkopf staff, Nursing Floor 1.

There will be no prior visitation.  A Celebration of Emma’s life will be held at a later date to be announced. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.  Memorial offerings may be made to St. Mary’s School for the Deaf, 2253 Main St, Buffalo, NY 14214.  Arrangements by M.J.
