
FREDONIA – The Buffalo State men’s soccer team opened the Fredonia Classic with an impressive 5-0 victory over the Geneva Golden Tornadoes this afternoon at University Stadium.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Diego Rivera (Hudson, NY/Cairo Durham) continued his hot start to the season tallying two goals and an assist.
- Ali Mohamed (Lackawanna, NY/Lackawanna), JB Almontaser (Lackawanna, NY/Lackawanna), and Joseph Desmonie (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) all scored for Buffalo State.
- Nacho Caceres (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) picked up an assist.
- Shae Wirt (Overland Park, KS/St. Thomas Aquinas) was excellent in net yet again as he gathered three saves to post his second straight shutout for the Bengals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Almontaser got the scoring started early as he nailed his corner kick just over the head of the Geneva goalie for the first of his career.
- Two minutes later, Mohamed would net his second goal of the year in the same fashion sinking his corner kick out of reach.
- The Bengals offense continued to press as Caceres attempted a header goal that went off the top crossbar and right back to Desmonie who would tap it in for an easy goal.
- The Golden Tornadoes were only able to get three shots total in the first half.
- Rivera would score in his third straight game in the second half after nailing his second penalty kick in as many games.
- Rivera was not done yet as he netted his second goal of the afternoon after getting a loose ball and moving around a Geneva defender after a shot deflection.
- Geneva’s offense was more aggressive in the second half but could not find the back of the net.
- Buffalo State outshot the Golden Tornadoes by a narrow 19-15 margin.
FOR THE FOES
- Will Dunda and George Cottenden each had three shots for Geneva.
- Hadyn Catalon made five saves for the Golden Tornadoes.
