Junior forward Ely Sidibe netted his first collegiate goal during Canisius’ 2-1 setback to Saint Francis (Pa.) in collegiate men’s soccer action Thursday at the Stokes Soccerplex in Loretto, Pa.

Sidibe found the back of the net for the first time in his career with an assist from sophomore Josh Miller in the 88th minute to give the Golden Griffins (0-1-0) a chance to tie the game before the end of regulation.

Canisius would have an opportunity for a last-second tally as it was awarded a corner kick in the final 15 seconds of regulation, but the Red Flashes were able to clear the threat to hold on for the one-goal victory.

Earlier in the contest, SFU opened the scoring in the 39th minute as Maximus Rigby played a through ball to Alvaro Planas on the left side, where he collected the pass and placed a shot into the Griffs’ lower right-hand corner of the cage to give the Red Flashes the lead. Torren Aikens was also credited with an assist on the play

Andre Isreal doubled the SFU margin to 2-0 at the 55:19 mark of the contest, depositing a feed from Joschi Scheib into the Canisius goal from close range.

Graduate Spencer Catalano got the start in goal for Canisius and made four saves. Jordaine Jaeger made the start between the pipes for the Red Flashes and finished Tuesday’s game with two stops.
