Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) introduced legislation today to include Wyoming County in the region covered by the Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC).

Created under the 2008 Farm Bill, the Northern Border Regional Commission is a regional economic development partnership involving federal, state, and local governments in the four northeastern states along the Northern Border, including New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Through annual funding allocated by Congress, the NBRC implements various programs to offer financial and technical support to address the distinctive issues and obstacles in the region while promoting economic development.

“The Northern Border Regional Commission provides crucial resources to northern New York Counties by creating jobs, supporting small businesses, and strengthening local economies,” said Congresswoman Claudia Tenney. “However, while several western New York counties are eligible for funds through the commission, Wyoming County has been left out. By righting this wrong and designating Wyoming County as part of the NBRC, the county will be able to build partnerships and apply for funding to promote long-lasting economic advancements. This is a much-needed and long-overdue change.”

“The inclusion of Wyoming County in the Northern Border Regional Commission is essential to provide the pathway to important Federal funding programs,” said Rebecca Ryan, Chairwoman of the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors. “This will offer investment opportunities to improve and modernize existing infrastructure, increase access to high-speed telecommunications, and expand our highly productive workforce with essential skills for the future. This designation allows Wyoming County to join our neighboring counties to foster crucial entrepreneurial leadership and community economic development for our county and the region. We thank Congresswoman Tenney for her constant, unwavering leadership and support for our county and our hard-working residents.”

“Thank you to Congresswoman Tenney for introducing legislation that will include Wyoming County in the Northern Border Regional Commission,” said Scott Gardner, President and CEO of the Wyoming County Chamber & Tourism office. “This designation will allow Wyoming County to access critically important Federal funding for economic and community development projects and opportunities. Congresswoman Tenney’s leadership is appreciated in advancing this important legislation that will benefit the residents and communities across Wyoming County.”
