On May 27, 2023, SP Machias Troopers arrested John W. Washburn III, 36, of Rochester, NY for Driving While Intoxicated and Criminal Mischief 4th Degree.
Troopers investigating a one-vehicle accident on School Street in the village of Delevan observed Washburn exhibiting obvious signs of intoxication and determined he had been operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition. He refused to perform standardized field sobriety tests at the scene. Washburn was arrested at the scene, and damaged the interior of a State Police vehicle while in custody. He was then transported to SP Machias, where he refused to submit to a chemical breath test.
Washburn was released with appearance tickets for Yorkshire Town Court, where he is due to appear in June.
