BROCKPORT — Shevaughn Allen (Buffalo, NY/JFK) won the triple jump in dominating fashion with the best leap in the country and a new SUNYAC Championship meet record of 15.48 meters, while Chris Kaszynski (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore West) finished third in the pole vault at the opening day of the SUNYAC Indoor Championships. The Bengals also finished the day with eight marks in preliminaries that qualify for the finals on Saturday.

FOR THE BENGAL MEN
- Allen broke Richard Pete’s championship meet record of 14.88 meters on his second jump of the night, and recorded the longest jump in the country on his final leap, winning the event by over a full meter. Devin Austin (Kennedy, NY/Falconer) was fifth with a leap of 14.06 meters, while Jarrod Polk (Bolivar, NY/Bolivar-Richburg) finished sixth at 13.48 meters, both personal-best marks.
- Kaszynski earned his second career medal at the SUNYAC Championships, clearing 4.40 meters on his third attempt.
- Tyler McGrath (Clarence, NY/Clarence) was third in qualifying for the 60-meter dash final with a personal-best time of 7.04 seconds.
- Jacob Mairena (Bronx, NY/Eastchester) and Allen both qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, with Mairena running a season-best time of 8.78 seconds.
FOR THE BENGAL WOMEN
- Nat Sawyer (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) advanced to the finals in all three events that she competed in, winning her heat in the 60-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash, and 400-meter dash.
- Makhia Laster (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter) advanced to the finals in the 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 8.01 seconds to qualify sixth. She also moved into the finals in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.46 seconds.
