NEW PALTZ – The Buffalo State women’s basketball team fell short tonight to the New Paltz Hawks in a SUNYAC matchup at the Hawk Center by a 63-44 final.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE

  • Tashawni Cornfield (Gowanda, NY/Putham) led the Bengals offense with 19 points on the night.
  • Adiya Jones (Washington, D.C./McKinley Technology) led the team with seven rebounds while Brianna Smith (Oakfield, NY/Oakfield) had a team-high four steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After an 8-8 tie early in the first, the Hawks would go on an 11-0 run and close out the first 10 minutes of play with a slight 19-14 edge.
  • Buffalo State got right back into the action as they opened the second on a quick 4-0 run to get within one. The rally was led by a pair of free throws and a jumper in the paint from Cornfield.
  • The Hawks responded with a 17-6 run to enter halftime with a 36-24 lead.
  • In the third, the Bengals tried to claw their way back into things, however, New Paltz was able to hold strong and get their lead to 13.
  • The Hawks pulled away in the final 10 minutes by generating a game-high lead of 22 before securing the win.

FOR THE FOES

  • Brianna Fitzgerald rallied the Hawks with 19 points and 9 rebounds.
  • New Paltz dominated the boards as they outrebounded the Bengals by a 46-25 margin.
