
Canisius men’s swimmer graduate student Liam O’Connell and women’s swimmer junior Jordan O’Connor have been recognized as the Canisius Student-Athletes of the Month for December.
A native of Jersey Shore, Pa., O’Connor has eight individual first-place finishes so far this season. She broke program record in 100 back with a time of 57.08 at the Magnus Invite in mid-November and has been part of four first-place relays during the 2022-23 campaign. As a sophomore, O’Connor set the program record in the 100 back at the 2022 MAAC Championships.An animal behavior, ecology and conservation major at the College, O’Connor was a MAAC All-Academic Team selection last season.
O’Connell was part of program-record 3:04.82 in the 400 Free Relay at the Magnus Invite in mid-November. The Hamburg, N.Y., product also has nine individual first-place finishes so far. He also swam a leg of one first-place relay this season. O’Connell graduated with his undergraduate degree in political science and is currently working forwards his master’s in business administration. He is a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection.
The Canisius athletic department saw all 20 of its varsity programs post a team grade point average of 3.0 or better during the 2022 spring semester.
Seventeen teams posted a team GPA of 3.25 or higher, while the school’s 376 student-athletes combined to post a department grade point average of 3.45 for the term.
The spring semester saw 66 student-athletes earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Those 66 student-athletes were part of a group of 309 Canisius student-athletes to record a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. That breaks down to 82.0 percent of the College’s student-athlete population.
