WELLSVILLE — A 33-year-old Wellsville man was charged Monday with third-degree falsely reporting an incident and providing a false written statement after he reported his vehicle stolen.

According to New York State Police, Larry C. Haxton III reported his car had been stolen. Troopers subsequently located his vehicle, which had been involved in a one-car accident and abandoned in the village of Andover. Troopers determined through their investigation that Haxton’s vehicle had not been stolen, and that he was likely the operator at the time of the collision.

Haxton was arrested and arraigned in Wellsville Town Court and released on his own recognizance. He is due to reappear in that court later this month.
