CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS
Head Coach Trevor Large announced Thursday that six prospective student-athletes have signed their National Letters-of-Intent to play college hockey at Canisius.
Simon Gravel (Boucherville, Quebec/Brooks Bandits (AJHL)), Hudson Lambert (Richmond Hill, Ontario/Brampton Admirals (OJHL)), Keaton Mastrodonato (Power River, British Columbia/Alberni Valley Bulldogs (BCHL)), Ryan Miotto (Thorold, Ontario/Alberni Valley Bulldogs (BCHL)), MacGregor Sinclair(Irma, Alberta/Battlefield North Stars (SJHL)) and John Stampohar (Grand Rapids, Minn./Fairbanks Ice Dogs (NAHL)) have all recently made their commitment to the Golden Griffins program.
All six prospective student-athletes are expected to join Canisius as freshmen for the 2019-20 campaign.
“This class will add immediate skill and ability to our lineup next season,” Large said. “Each player has the make-up of what it means to be a Griff. They are all positive, competitive and team-first. We look forward to them adding to our tremendous culture. There is a great opportunity for these players to earn valuable playing time with our departing senior class. We are excited for all of them to step foot on campus.”
Gravel is in his first season with the Bandits, making an immediate impact by tallying 22 goals and 20 assists in his first 33 games. Before making his way to Brooks, the Boucherville, Quebec, product scored 49 points (19 goals, 30 assists) in 35 games with Saint-Hyacinthe Lauréats of the Quebec College Hockey League (QCHL) last season. He then teamed up with Collège Français de Longueuil of the Quebec Junior Hockey League (QJHL) for the playoffs, tallying 13 points in 11 games to help the team win a league title and qualify for the Fred Page Cup.
Lambert is in his first season with the Admirals, recording eight goals and 20 assists in 24 games played thus far this season. A product of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Lambert joined Brampton after two seasons with the Orangeville Flyers (OJHL), where he recorded 84 points (20g, 64a) in 106 games played.
Mastrodonato is in his second full season with the Bulldogs, having compiled 32 goals and 35 assists in 103 career games played. A native of Powell River, B.C., Mastrodonato has recorded 12 goals and 13 assists in 35 games played in 2018-19. He was a BCHL All-Rookie Team selection in 2017-18 after recording 20 goals and 22 assists in 58 games played during his first full campaign with the Bulldogs.
Miotto is in his first season with the Bulldogs after beginning the 2018-19 season with the Penticton Vees. In 33 games played between the Bulldogs and Vees this season, Miotto has compiled 10 goals and 17 assists. A native of Thorold, Ontario, Miotto spent the 2017-18 season with the Chilliwack Chiefs, registering 21 points (9g, 12a) in 57 regular season games before appearing in all six games of the Chiefs’ run to the RBC Cup.
Sinclair is in his third season with the North Stars, registering 132 points (52g, 81a) in 138 career games played. A native of Irma, Alberta, Sinclair has posted 12 goals and 24 assists in 33 games played this season. In 2017-18, Sinclair recorded 33 goals and 41 assists in 55 regular-season games before contributing seven goals and eight assists in nine postseason contests.
In his second full season with the Ice Dogs, Stampohar has recorded 10 goals and 31 assists in 82 games played. A product of Grand Rapids, Minn., Stampohar has tallied two goals and 15 assists in 29 games played this season. In 2017-18, Stampohar notched eight goals and 14 assists in 53 regular-season contests with the Ice Dogs before pitching in one goal and four assists in 11 postseason contests.
Canisius (6-8-1, 5-7-1 AHA) returns to action Dec. 28-29 when it takes on No. 14 Union in a non-conference series at Messa Rink in Schenectady, N.Y.
