Game Recap
Bowling Green defeated Canisius behind a 27-point first quarter, 74-53, in non-conference women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon. The Golden Griffins fall to 1-8 on the year, while the Falcons improve to 4-4.
Canisius’ lone bright spot was senior forward Sara Hinriksdottir, who recorded her third double-double on the season with 18 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. Junior Shannon Conely added eight points for the Blue and Gold, freshman Erika Josephhad five points, and junior transfer D’Jhai Patterson-Ricks collected six rebounds in the loss. As a team, the Griffs shot 28.6 percent from the floor and 20.8 percent on their 3-point field goal attempts. Canisius out-scored Bowling Green 24-20 in the paint.
The Falcons made 13-of-35 shots taken from deep, led by freshman Morgan McMillan who hit on 4-of-9 attempts from 3-point territory. McMillan finished with 14 points, while teammate, junior Andrea Cecil finished with a game-high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Redshirt-sophomore Kadie Hemphling had a team-high ten rebounds for Bowling Green, and Angela Perry added 11 points and collected five caroms. Bowling Green made 45.6 percent of its field goal attempts and 37.1 percent of its shots from 3-point range.
The game would be tied only once, 8-8 with 4:59 on the clock in the first quarter, from there Bowling Green would go on a 30-2 run that lasted 10:13 of game time. During the stretch, the Falcons hit eight 3-pointers to extend their lead to 38-10 with 4:46 remaining in the first half. The Griffs would chip away the best they could in the final minutes of the half, outscoring Bowling Green, 10-6, behind 3-pointers from Anndea Zeigler and Hinriksdottir to head into the locker room trailing 44-20. The Bowling Green lead would get as big as 63-27 after sophomore Madisen Parker made two at the line with a 1:42 left in the third stanza of play. Canisius’ offense seemed to finally click in the final frame as it would out-score Bowling Green 23-11. During the quarter, seven different Griffs found the bottom of the basket, with Hinriksdottir scoring six points and Joseph adding five before the final buzzer.

“It’s not their energy level or their effort level, and it’s the mental aspect and how they approach each game which is perplexing to us at this point. You go through two-three days talking about what to exactly expect from an opponent and how to get yourself high-percentage looks that you can be successful at, individually and as a team and some days we come out and do it really well, and other days we look like we have no idea what we are talking about.”

• Saturday marked the fourth meeting between Bowling Green and Canisius, with the Falcons now holding a 3-1 advantage in the series.
• Keflavik, Iceland, native Hinriksdottir grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds Saturday.
• Freshman Jillian Licurgo made her first collegiate bucket, a jumper from the baseline with 1:41 left in the fourth quarter.
• Patterson-Ricks’ six rebounds is a career-high.
