Isaiah Reese

CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS

Canisius junior guard Isaiah Reese is one of 50 mid-major players named to the 2018-19 Lou Henson Award Watch List, CollegeInsider.com announced Tuesday. Reese is the only player from a MAAC school to make this year’s watch list, and he is one of 13 juniors to be recognized.

The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the nation’s top-mid major men’s basketball player in Division I college basketball. The 2019 Lou Henson Award will presented at the College Insider awards event in April at the Final Four in Minneapolis, Minn.

Reese, the 2018-19 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, is averaging 12.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for the Golden Griffins this season. He is just the second player in program history to be named to the Lou Henson Award Watch List, joining former Canisius guard Billy Baron, who was a finalist for the honor in 2013-14.

Lou Henson coached 41 years. When he left the game in 2005, he was sixth all-time in career Division I coaching wins with 779. He holds the distinction of being the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State, and he is one of 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two different schools to the Final Four.

The Canisius men’s basketball team will return to action Wednesday, Nov. 28, when the team travels to meet long-time rival St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y. The game, which is set to tipoff at 7 p.m., will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with the radio call can be heard on WECK-Radio Buffalo, GoGriffs.com and the TuneIn app.
