NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Senior forward Marvin Prochet posted his fourth straight double-double to start the season with game-highs 23 points and 12 rebounds as the Niagara Purple Eagles fell to the Grambling State Tigers, 74-68, on Friday in the first game of the Fort Myers Tip-Off Niagara Regional.

Game Summary
After four lead changes in the opening three minutes, it was the Grambling State Tigers who managed to stave off the Purple Eagles for the rest of the game.
 
Marvin Prochet 3-pointer (3-2) and jumper (7-6) were the only leads of the game for the Purple Eagles. Grambling used a 7-0 run for a 29-19 lead before a 7-2 spurt by Niagara trimmed the deficit to 31-26 with eight minutes left in the half. However, the Tigers responded with a 9-0 run to build their largest lead of the game, 40-26.
 
Niagara went on a 10-2 run that spanned both halves; the Purple Eagles ended the first half with five straight points, capped by a 3-pointer by Prochet, and opened the second half with baskets for Chris Barton and another triple by Prochet, as Niagara trailed 46-42.
 
Grambling answered with six straight points to push its lead back to double digit. Niagara made another run to cut the deficit to 65-62 with 5:21 remaining, but the Purple Eagles went scoreless over the next three minutes as the Tigers built a seven-point lead.   
 
Eagle’s Eye On…

  • Marvin Prochet tied season-highs in both points (23) and in rebounds (12) while also posting game-high marks in both categories.   
  • Dominic Robb picked up his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with a career-high three steals.
  • Chris Barton scored nine points and dished out four assists.
  • James Towns’ season-high six assists led the Purple Eagles.


Inside The Numbers

  • Marvin Prochet has four straight double-doubles to start the season.  It is the longest double-double streak by a Purple Eagle since Benson Egemonyne had four straight during the 2008-09 season.
