NACOGDOCHES, T.X. — The Niagara women’s basketball team lost a close game to Yale, 67-64, in the consolation round of the Preseason WNIT on Friday.

Game Recap
- Maggie McIntyre scored five straight points early in the first quarter to leave Niagara trailing Yale by only two points, 7-5. Four points from Emerald Ekpiteta tied things up, 9-9.
- A bucket from Maddy Yelle gave the Purple Eagles their first lead of the game, 11-9. Niagara led the Bulldogs 13-11 at the end of the first quarter.
- Yale began to pull away in the second quarter, taking a 25-15 lead over the Purple Eagles. A trey from Ally Haar cut Yale’s lead to seven points, 25-18.
- McIntyre hit her second three of the game with a little under three minutes remaining in the quarter. The Bulldogs, however, maintained the lead, 28-21.
- With about one minute left in the second quarter, Haar sank another three to leave NU trailing by only two points, 31-29, going into halftime.
- A bucket from Kharysma Bryant tied things up, 31-31, less than one minute into the third quarter.
- Back-to-back 3-pointers from McIntyre and Jordan Edwards late in the quarter put Niagara back in the lead, 46-44 and NU led 50-46 going into the final quarter of play.
- Four points from Jai Moore and six from Adila Gathers kept NU ahead, 62-60. Yale, however, started to pick up momentum late in the quarter. Despite two more points from Gathers, the Bulldogs pulled out a close win over the Purple Eagles, 67-64.
Inside the Numbers
- McIntyre led the Purple Eagles in scoring with 14 points, tying her career-high.
- Gathers added a career-high 10 points.
- Valentina Pepic led the Purple Eagles in rebounding with a career-high 10 rebounds.
- Edwards had a career-high three steals.
