BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Canisius athletic department, in conjunction with ESPN, announced Tuesday that all 28 men’s and women’s basketball home games will be produced by the College’s Golden Griffin Broadcast Network for air on ESPN3 and ESPN+.

Of Canisius’ 28 home basketball games that will be shown live on the ESPN family of networks, 15 will air exclusively on ESPN+. ESPN+ and the redesigned ESPN app were launched last spring. For more information on the ESPN+ platform, CLICK HERE.

The Canisius women’s basketball team will have 15 home games broadcast on ESPN3, starting with the team’s 2018-19 season opener against Miami (Ohio) Nov. 9. Tipoff at the Koessler Athletic Center is set for 7 p.m. The Griffs’ first home game on ESPN+ is slated for Saturday, Dec. 1, when the Blue and Gold plays host to Youngstown State.

In addition to the 15 home broadcasts on ESPN3 or ESPN+, the women’s team will play eight road games that will appear on the ESPN family of networks, with six of those coming in MAAC play. The team’s first road game on ESPN+ is set for Nov. 13 at St. Bonaventure.

The men’s team will appear on an ESPN network 25 times this season, with 13 of those games being home games. In addition to those 13 home dates, the Griffs will appear on ESPN3 or ESPN+ 12 times on the road. Three of the men’s basketball team’s league dates (Feb. 8 at Rider, Feb. 22 at Monmouth and March 1 at home vs. Siena) have been predetermined as potential games that can be flexed as part of the MAAC’s broadcast agreement with ESPN. Per league rules, the network announcement for those three “Wild Card” games will be made 14 days in advance of tipoff.

Both of Canisius’ home doubleheaders this season will air live on ESPN3, starting with the twinbill at the Koessler Athletic Center Nov. 17. Both of the Canisius-Niagara games, scheduled for Feb. 27, 2019, will also be broadcast live on ESPN3, with the women’s game starting at 5 p.m., and the men’s game tipping off at 7:30 p.m.

The 2018-19 academic year marks the fourth season of production efforts by Canisius, a collaborative effort between the athletic department and the College’s communications studies program. Since the program started in the fall of 2015, the Golden Griffin Broadcast Network has produced 182 live home games for distribution on ESPN3 and ESPN+.
