BUFFALO STATE ATHLETICS

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Forty Buffalo State student-athletes volunteered at the Special Olympics regional bowling tournament held at the AMF Airport Lanes in Cheektowaga, N.Y. on Nov. 3, 2018. The Olympians were assigned to specific lanes and bowled three games during the event. The athletes served as honorary coaches and helped the bowlers understand how the tournament would work.

“This was a great chance for our student-athletes to learn more about a community of individuals they might not normally get to interact with,” said Nicole Mehlman-Davidow, interim head cross country and track and field coach and Student Athlete Advisory Committee liaison. “I saw our student-athletes having a lot of fun and I think they walked away with a greater understanding of how individuals with intellectual disabilities can thrive.”

This event is part of the on-going partnership between Division III student-athletes across the country and the Special Olympics organization. Buffalo State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee helped organize this event.
