HAMDEN, C.T. — Chances of a postseason berth officially vanished for the Niagara men’s soccer team after a 3-0 loss on the road against Quinnipiac. The result assured the team would finish with no more than nine points against conference teams, with the current sixth-place squads holding 12 points entering Wednesday.

Match Moments

  • 16′ – After surrendering a sixth-minute opener, Luca Pacheco nearly equalized with a header, but the attempt was corralled by the Bobcat netminder.
  • 38′ – The best chance of the half for Niagara came after great pressure up front from Luigi Boa Morte. A routine pass back to the keeper got away and made a beeline for the open net, but a frantic effort from the goalie allowed him to peel it off the goal line and prevent a monumental gaffe from leveling the contest.
  • 48′ – Coming out of the halftime break, Mbongeni Tshuma put a ball just wide of the goal.
  • 84′ – The final 10 minutes of the match were full of sustained opportunities for the Purple Eagles. Absolom Solorio Villalpando and Bautista Pedezert had shots saved and blocked, respectively, and Matt Krucko-Moeller took four corner kicks in a 90-second span.
  • 88′ – With just minutes remaining, Matt Lopoyda popped a shot off the right post of the Bobcats’ net.
