NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. — In the final game of their opening series, the Niagara men’s hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to AIC on Saturday night. The tandem of Dylan Mills and Ludwig Stenlund continued to be an early bright spot in the season as they produced the lone Niagara goal of the evening.

Game Recap

  • After a fairly one-sided first period, the Purple Eagles regrouped and managed to take 10 shot attempts in the first five minutes.
  • At the 14:41 mark of the second, Niagara earned a power play opportunity, and Mills took advantage of the man in the box. After Stenlund took a shot from in front of the crowded AIC goal, the rebound found its way to Mills, who potted it easily to tie the game at 1-1.
  • The offense continued to churn out shots and nearly found a second goal on the power play when Jared Brandt rang a puck off the pipe with 18:49 gone in the period.
  • Early in the third, Brian Wilson made a fantastic save from his back after a mad scramble in the goalmouth gave AIC plenty of opportunity to add to their lead.
