LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. — Despite an early goal from Luca Pacheco, the Niagara University men’s soccer team (2-9-0, 0-3-0 MAAC) dropped its third straight conference game, 2-1, to Rider (4-5-1, 3-0-0 MAAC).

Match Moments

  • 12′ – On a quick counter, Hector Solorio Villalpando threaded a long ball up to Pacheco, who found himself alone with the goalkeeper. Pacheco was able to best the netminder and tally his team-leading third goal of the fall.
  • 30′ – The ever-busy Steve Casey made his fifth save of the half (all in a 15-minute span) to keep the Niagara lead intact. Casey ended the contest with seven saves, giving him 50 on the year.
  • 89′ – Pacheco bookended the match with another shot on goal but was denied in a last-ditch attempt to bring Niagara level before the horn.

Coach’s Corner

  • Head coach Bill Boyle: “I’m proud of this group. It sounds odd because we have to stop conceding the types of goals we do, but one of Rider’s was well earned. We got the lead as we wanted and had some very good moments against one of the best conference teams year in and year out. We can’t hang our heads; we need to get the clean sheet.”
