NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Despite a late push against Siena, the Niagara men’s soccer team fell, 2-1, in its home and conference opener. Absolom Solorio Villalpando capitalized on a late error by the Saints to keep the Purple Eagles close.

Match Moments:
33′ – Solorio Villalpando and Matt Krucko-Moeller combined to take five corner kicks in the opening third of the game.


76′ – A handball by Siena inside the box gifted Niagara its fourth penalty kick opportunity of the season. Solorio Villalpando potted the ball past the keeper’s extension and pulled the Purple Eagles to within a goal.


89′ – With fewer than 80 seconds remaining in regulation, the Purple Eagles won a free kick from 19 yards out. Luca Pacheco masterfully curled the ball around the Siena wall, but missed the tying shot into the upper corner of the net by mere inches.
