UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Freshman defender Tess Ford was named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon after her two-goal weekend in a pair of UB victories. This marks the second straight week the Bulls saw a freshman earn the weekly recognition.

Ford has played a major role in the Bulls current five-game winning streak and she had her best weekend of the season this past weekend as UB handed Canisius and St. Francis (PA) a pair of losses. The Williamsville, NY native made a huge impact on Friday night on set pieces for the Bulls as she netted her first career goal in the 26thminute to give UB the 1-0 lead over Canisius. Ford finished off her game against the Golden Griffins with a career-high three shots, all on set pieces, as the Bulls collected the 2-1 victory over their Big 4 foes.

The freshman made another huge impact on Sunday afternoon as she was able to bury the game-winning goal off of a Gurjeena Jandu corner kick in the 52nd minute to lift the Bulls to the 3-0 victory over St. Francis (PA). Ford finished off the match with two shots while also playing a vital role defensively as the Bulls were able to record their fourth clean sheet of the season, not allowing any dangerous scoring chances.
On the year, Ford has been a vital part of the Bulls set pieces as she has notched two goals, an assist and five points with five shots. The freshman has also been very strong defensively for the Bulls as the center back has helped UB earn four clean sheets while owning a 0.67 goals-against average on the season. Since the Bulls season opening loss at St. John’s, they have allowed just one goal during their five game winning streak.
Ford and the Bulls will return to the UB Stadium pitch on Friday night as they welcome Big 4 foe St. Bonaventure for their final non-conference match of the season.
