BUFFALO, N.Y. — Canisius junior Madeline Beaulieu was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after she scored two goals last week in the Golden Griffins’ final non-conference games of the 2018 season.

This marks the second time Beaulieu has been honored by the conference office for her play on the field this season. In Canisius’ 2-1 loss to Buffalo,  the Vestal, N.Y., native put the Blue and Gold on the scoreboard in the second half with a goal 56th minute. Her third marker of the season came off an assist from freshman teammate Hope Balling. Beaulieu’s goal ended Buffalo’s shutout streak at 383:45 minutes, marking the second longest streak in school history.

The junior scored her fourth goal of the season and second of the weekend on Sunday, in the 41st minute, to help lead Canisius to a 1-0 win over Cleveland State at the Demske Sports Complex.

With the win, the Griffs improve to 3-2-1 on the season, giving the team a winning record in non-league play for the second-straight season.

Beaulieu’s game-winning tally on Sunday came after she headed a corner kick from sophomore Magdalen Canitia. Beaulieu’s goal, her second in as many games for Canisius, stands as the sixth of her career, while the assist for Canitia marks her first point of the 2018 season.

“It’s fantastic to see her strength on the field,” head coach Todd Clark said. “She works hard in games and has been adding the final piece to the puzzle. She was a huge contributor to two great games against tough opponents and it shows to her true ability and fortitude.”

Canisius will open up MAAC play on the road at Saint Peter’s Sept. 15. Kickoff in Jersey City, N.J., is set for noon. The Griffs return home Sept. 22, when the team plays host to Manhattan. That game, which will be broadcast live on ESPN, will start at 1 p.m.
