OLEAN, N.Y. — The Canisius cross country teams ran to victory in the 50th annual Little Three Championship on Saturday as the Golden Griffins defeated rivals Niagara and St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y.
Senior Siobhan Quinn took home her fourth consecutive Little Three individual title, becoming the first ever female runner to win four-straight in Little Three history. Her time of 17:50.35 boosted the Griffs to their fifth straight Little Three Championship title.
Behind Quinn in second place was senior Carlin Sullivan clocking in at 18:21.24. Carly Benson (18:44.78) Aileen Doyle (19:23.52), Kayla Stewart (19:40.10), Kayla Leo (19:45.05) and Emily Scheck (19:46.58) all finished inside the top-10.
On the men’s side, the Blue and Gold collected their 13th straight Little Three Championship. Junior Nick Neamtuled the way crossing the line in 15:25. Freshman Michael Peppy (15:46) finished in second place behind Neamtu followed by Patrick Crowley (15:49) and Josh Sopchak (15:50) in third and fourth respectively.
Marcus Brown (15:55), Evan Whittaker (15:58), Turner Dirrigl (16:03), Henry Burton (16:03) and Paul Henry (16:08) each finished inside the top-10.
Canisius scored 16 points on the men’s side, while the women tallied 17 points. St. Bonaventure finished second on both sides with 39 and 49 overall points respectively. Niagara placed third with 65 and 54 total points.
The Griffs continue their season on Sept. 14 at the National Catholic Championship in South Bend, Ind. while select members of the team will take part in the University at Buffalo Stampede.
