NIAGARA UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS
EDISON, N.J. — The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the 2018 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Preseason polls on Tuesday. Both the men’s and women’s teams were picked 10th, with 26 and 29 points, respectively.
For the men’s squad, the Purple Eagles return four runners from last season, including fifth-year athlete Ben Slate. Joining the team for the first time is Daniel Leskowicz, a senior who has spent the past three years on the Niagara men’s swimming team. On the women’s side, seven of the team’s 12 runners are freshmen. The team’s juniors, Julia Freemire and Mallory Ronan, represent the most veteran runners for the squad.
Also new to the team this year is assistant coach Curshonne Johnson, who was added by head coach Christine Kloiber after finishing her collegiate career at Clark Atlanta University this spring.
The two squads will be traveling to Olean, N.Y. on Saturday, Sept. 1, to open their season at the Little 3 Invitational hosted by Saint Bonaventure. The women will race first, at 10:00 a.m., followed by the men’s competition at 10:45 a.m.
