UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS

CLEVELAND, O.H. — The University at Buffalo was the recipient of the 2018 Institutional Sportsmanship Award presented on Wednesday, May 30 at the Mid-American Conference Honors Dinner, as part of the Conference annual Spring Meetings at the Cleveland Renaissance Hotel. This marks the first time for the University at Buffalo to receive this special honor as voted upon by MAC membership.
“It’s definitely an honor to receive the Institutional Sportsmanship Award,” said UB Director of Athletics, Mark Alnutt. “Furthermore, it’s very humbling to be chosen for this prestigious award by our peers.  This is a true testament of how our coaches, student-athletes and administrators represent themselves and more importantly our great university in a first class manner while competing at a high level on their respective field of play.  At UB, we embrace this very important value of exhibiting sportsmanship at a high level.”
The Institutional Sportsmanship Award evolved from the Conference strategic plan as the value of sportsmanship was the center of the Conference mission statement and core values. In the voting process, every MAC institution received votes, which further supports that sportsmanship is emphasized and expected from our student-athletes, coaches and administrators across each and every MAC campus.
“The Institutional Sportsmanship Award is a positive reinforcement of one of the values that we as a Conference and each of our member institutions all possess as a core value of who we are and how we conduct ourselves in athletic competition,” said MAC Commissioner, Dr. Jon A. Steinbrecher.
