Danny Jansen’s third hit of the game was a walk-off winner as the Bisons defeated the Chiefs, 4-3, in a 10-inning fridaynightbash! from Coca-Cola Field.

Jansen’s bad-bounce single glanced off the glove of Syracuse second baseman Irving Falu and into centerfield, allowing Devon Travis to score from second for the game-winning tally.

The hit rescued the Bisons from potentially a tough loss against the IL North’s top team. Buffalo had a 3-0 lead early and a 3-2 advantage into the ninth inning until the Chiefs tied the game with Jacob Wilson’s sacrifice fly off reliever Al Alburquerque.

But Alburquerque stayed on in the 10th and kept the Chiefs off the scoreboard with a strikeout and a heads up play to retire the free base runner on a comebacker to the mound. With the score tied and Travis placed at second base as the free runner, Syracuse elected to pitch to the hot-hitting Jansen. Even after falling behind 3-1 in the count, Chiefs reliever Austin Adams continued to challenge the Herd backstop. Jansen made them pay with his third RBI on the night.

With the Bisons up 1-0 early, Jansen powered a deep drive to center through the strong wind for a two-run triple in the third inning. He finished the game 3-4, also adding a double and a walk to his night.

The late Chiefs’ rally took a win away from Deck McGuire. The righty worked a Bisons’ season-high eight innings and allowed just a two-run homer to Mark Reynold’s in the fourth. McGuire retired the last nine batters he faced, with seven total strikeouts on the night.

The defensive star of the game for Buffalo was Roemon Fields. The centerfielder threw out two Chiefs on the base paths. He threw out Bengie Gonzalez trying to stretch a single into a double in the third and then temporarily preserved the Bisons’ one-run lead in the fifth when he nabbed Gonzalez trying to score from second on a single from Falu.

The Bisons will look to make it three in a row on Saturday with a 1:05 p.m. first pitch against the Chiefs. Gates open at a special time of 11:30 a.m. to accommodate an autograph session by Lloyd Moseby and Jesse Barfield as part of ‘Blue Jays Weekend.’
