BUFFALO, N.Y. — Robert Liebel (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) and Cody Sikora (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) will lead Buffalo State men’s track and field into the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships at Geneseo this Friday and Saturday.
Liebel is the defending champion in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and has been named the SUNYAC Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet three-consecutive times, including twice at the indoor meet. He enters this meet seeded first in the 200-meter dash (21.83) and second in the 100-meter dash (10.84).
Sikora is the reigning champion in the 400-meter dash and is seeded second entering this weekend’s meet with a time of 48.90 seconds.
Liebel and Sikora also pace a Bengals’ 4×400-meter relay that enters with a top-time of 3:22.43, while Liebel will also run with the top-seeded 4×100-meter relay (41.78).
In order to improve on a fourth-place finish from a season ago, the Bengals’ sprinting depth will need to rise to the top. Benjamin Fairweather (Brooklyn/Kurt Hahn Expeditionary) is seeded third in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the 400. Eric Vassell (Bronx/Mt. St. Michael) enters ranked fourth in the 100-meter dash, while the Bengals will also look for points from Blaine Billings (Newburgh/Newburgh Free) and Elijah Lawal(Duanesburg/Duanesburg).
Lawal is also seeded fourth in the high jump with a season-best mark of 1.90 meters.
Other Bengals looking to score points include Nick Gray (Williamsville/Williamsville South) and Cooper Schiavo (Smithtown/Smithtown West) in the 110-meter hurdles, Sachar Williams (Rochester/East) in the 400-meter hurdles, Richard Arnaud (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta) and Cody Lambert (Kenmore/Kenmore West) in the long jump, T.J. Kmitch (Derby/Lake Shore) in the decathlon and Thomas Sayles (Jamesville/Fabius-Pompey) in the pole vault.
The meet begins on Friday at 2 p.m. and resumes on Saturday at 9 a.m.
