LAST TIME OUT
• The Canisius women’s lacrosse program scored early and often as it routed rival Niagara, 17-7 in the first round of the MAAC tournament last Saturday night at the Demske Sports Complex.
• Senior Jen Reininger posted a career-best six goals to lead all scorers in the game. The Blue and Gold had three other players record four points, as senior Allie Stewart tallied four goals, junior Jourdan Roemer tallied a goal and three assists, while sophomore Bryar Cummings notched a pair of goals and assists.
• Canisius started the game hot, scoring the first three makers within the first three minutes, as Reininger and Cummings combined for the tallies. Niagara answered back scoring goals at the 23:08 and 21:53 marks to cut the Canisius lead to one.
• However the Blue and Gold took control and never looked back, scoring nine unanswered goals and holding the Purple Eagles scoreless for 27 minutes, before a Rachel MacCheyne goal at the 24:52 of the second half mark broke the run.
• All-told Canisius outscored the Purple Eagles 8-5 in the final frame, but the first-half advantage was enough as the team cruised to the 17-7 victory.
• The team received secondary scoring up and down its roster as well, as senior Lauren Smolensky finished with one goal and two assists, while freshman Miranda Malvaso posted a season-high two goals. Her sister Marissa Malvaso also recorded a point with an assist, meanwhile junior Kayla O’Connell recorded her first career-assist.
• Also finding the scoresheet was sophomore Rachel Ryan who tallied her sixth goal against the Purple Eagles this week.

• The Golden Griffins continue their title defense on Thursday, as the team faces No. 1 seeded Marist in the MAAC Championship semifinal round.
• Canisius and the MAAC has been led offensively by Jourdan Roemer, who comes into the contest with 78 points (47 goals and 31 assists).
• Not far behind is Jen Reininger who has tallied 52 goals and nine assists for 61 points.
• The Blue and Gold has also received goal scoring from Allie Stewart (27 goals) and three assists), Lauren Smolenksy (11 goals and 15 assists) and Bryar Cummings (20 goals and four assist)
• Marissa Malvaso and Miranda Malvaso have continued to get stronger with each game, as the freshmen have been strong complimentary pieces in their first year.
• Marissa Malvaso has tallied 12 goals and three assists, while Miranda Malvaso has tallied five goals.
• Rachel Ryan has also posted career-best offensive numbers, having totaled 10 goals this season. |

• Rebecca VanLaeken has been one of the nation’s best goaltenders, ranking third in the nation in saves per game with an 11.83 mark.
• She is also ranked first in the NCAA in total saves, setting a new Canisius program single season record, with 213

REININGER AND ROEMER HIGHLIGHT ALL-MAAC AWARDS
• Canisius was well represented during the MAAC awards banquet but Jen Reininger and Jourdan Roemerhighlighted the night, winning conference midfielder of the year and offensive player of the year, respectively.
• Along with those awards the Griffs offensive duo, were named to the All-MAAC First Team.
• Joining Roemer and Reininger was Rebecca VanLaeken who earned All-MAAC Second Team accolades andMarissa Malvaso, who garnered All-Rookie team honors.
• Reininger and Roemer’s honors are the fifth time in program history that the Blue and Gold earned offensive player of year and midfielder of the year in the same season.
• From 2012 to 2015 Canisius reeled off four-straight years of earning those two awards.
