LAST TIME OUT
• Despite scoring four-straight goals to open the second half and erasing a 7-3 Fairfield lead, the Canisius women’s lacrosse team fell to the Stags, 11-8, at the Demske Sports Complex on Saturday morning.
• The Blue and Gold bounced back in  the second half, down 7-3, as the squad tallied four-straight markers, capped by a Jourdan Roemer tally at the 23:20 mark. Roemer’s 44th goal of the season knotted the game up at 7-7, and forced a Fairfield time out to regroup.
• The timeout seemed to work well for the Stags, as the team responded out of the break and went on to score three of the next four goals.
• Allie Stewart kept Canisius’ hope alive as she tied things at 8-8 with 19 minutes remaining, however Fairfield’s defense stiffened and kept the Griffs off the scoresheet the rest of the way.
• Lauren Smolensky and Stewart led the team in points, on senior day, posting three each. Smolensky tallied a goal and two assists, while Stewart recorded two goals and one assist.
• Jen Reininger also posted a pair goals along with Bryar Cummings. Roemer was held in check for most of the day but got free for a goal in the second half.

A TRADITION UNLIKE ANY OTHER
• As we head into the final two games of the MAAC season, and teams jockey for seeding, Canisius has punched its ticket to the 2018 conference championship.
• With its win over Quinnipiac last Saturday, the Blue and Gold clinched a berth into the tournament for the 11th-straight season.
• Canisius was the first team to have its ticket punched, as the squad currently sits in a traffic jam with five other teams, boasting a 5-2 record.
• Wednesday’s match-up at Niagara will prove to be a critical one, as teams await the MAAC’s final seeding.

SCOUTING CANISIUS

• Rachel Ryan has also been moved into a more offensive role, as she now has four goals on the season.

SERIES HISTORY VS. NIAGARA
• Wednesday will be the 25th meeting between the Griffs and Purple Eagles, and Canisius holds a 14-10 record all-time.
• While Niagara has gotten the better of the Blue and Gold at the Demske Sports Complex, Canisius holds a 7-3 record in Lewiston, N.Y.
• The series has been an odd one with Niagara reeling off 10-straight wins before Canisius won its first game in 2005, and hasn’t lost since.

VANLAEKEN HAVING A HISTORIC SEASON
• Goalie Rebecca VanLaeken is having a historic campaign, for the Blue and Gold, as she is second in nation in total saves (188) and is third in the country in saves per game with a 11.75 average.
