LAST TIME OUT
• Despite scoring four-straight goals to open the second half and erasing a 7-3 Fairfield lead, the Canisius women’s lacrosse team fell to the Stags, 11-8, at the Demske Sports Complex on Saturday morning.
• The Blue and Gold bounced back in the second half, down 7-3, as the squad tallied four-straight markers, capped by a Jourdan Roemer tally at the 23:20 mark. Roemer’s 44th goal of the season knotted the game up at 7-7, and forced a Fairfield time out to regroup.
• The timeout seemed to work well for the Stags, as the team responded out of the break and went on to score three of the next four goals.
• Allie Stewart kept Canisius’ hope alive as she tied things at 8-8 with 19 minutes remaining, however Fairfield’s defense stiffened and kept the Griffs off the scoresheet the rest of the way.
• Lauren Smolensky and Stewart led the team in points, on senior day, posting three each. Smolensky tallied a goal and two assists, while Stewart recorded two goals and one assist.
• Jen Reininger also posted a pair goals along with Bryar Cummings. Roemer was held in check for most of the day but got free for a goal in the second half.

• The Golden Griffins come down the homestretch on Wednesday, as the team takes on Niagara in the final regular season contest of 2018.
• The game proves to be a critical one, as the Blue and Gold are tied with four other teams, with a 5-2 record.
• Canisius has been led offensively by Jourdan Roemer, who comes into the contest with 67 points (43 goals and 24 assists).
• Roemer’s 68 points is ranked second in the conference, averaging 4.25 points per contest through 16 games.
• Not far behind is Jen Reininger who has tallied 41 goals and eight assists for 50 points.
• The Blue and Gold has also received goal scoring from Allie Stewart (23 goals) and two assists), Lauren Smolenksy (nine goals and 12 assists) and Bryar Cummings (16 goals and one assist)
• Marissa Malvaso and Miranda Malvaso have continued to get stronger with each game, as the freshmen have been strong complimentary pieces in their first year.
• Marissa Malvaso has tallied 12 goals and two assists, while Miranda Malvaso has tallied three goals.
• Rachel Ryan has also been moved into a more offensive role, as she now has four goals on the season.
• Reininger, aside from goal scoring, has been all over the stat sheet, leading the team in ground balls with 55, draw controls with 87 and caused turnovers with 25.
• Reininger is ranked 10th in the nation in ground balls with a 3.44 average.
• Rebecca VanLaeken has been one of the nation’s best goaltenders, ranking second in the country in saves (188) and third in saves per game (11.75).
• VanLaeken comes into the game with a 12.00 goals against average and a .499 save percentage.
