CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS


BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Canisius outdoor track program will run in the 124th Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., Thursday April 26th.

Senior Jeff Antolos and sophomore Donny Glavin will compete in the men’s 5k event at 9:25 p.m.

“I think the real purpose of sending our athletes is to get them into one of the highest quality fields on the east coast” said Head Coach Nate Huckle “It’s one of the oldest and most prestigious meets in the country, it’s a great experience for our student athletes.”

The event will be the third competition for the Griffs during the outdoor season, with Canisius last running at the Alfred State Invite on April 23. Senior Mary Manzari highlighted the event by placing first in the women’s 1500-meter run with a time of 4:53.88.

Also running well for Canisius was sophomore Marcus Brown, who placed first in the men’s 1500-meter run with a mark of 4:03.97. Teammates Nick Neamtu (4:06.58), Connor Doran (4:07.43), Austin Oetigner (4:10.09), Patrick Crowley (4:10.26), Justin Vestri (4:10.56), Turner Dirrigl(4:16.46), Jordan Obrochta (4:17.91), and Anthony Belfatto (4:18.53) finished second through ninth respectively.

Freshman Paul Suflita tallied a first place finish for the day, with his 10:17.41 finish in the men’s 3000-meter Steeplechase. The relay squad of Dirrigl, Neamtu, Obrochata, and Connor Doran placed first in the men’s 4×800 event with their time of 8:18.40. The other relay unit of Brown, Vestri, Paul Henry, and Nicholas Spinosia added to the Golden Griffins first place finish count, with their 3:30.82 mark in the 4×400 event.

On the women’s side Aileen Doyle earned a third place finish in the women’s 1500-meter event with her time of 4:57.31.

The competition will be held at the historic Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania, with the Blue and Gold competing on Thursday only. The team will then take part in the UB Invitational this Saturday, April 29 with track events beginning at 11 a.m.
