NIAGARA UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS


ALFRED, N.Y. – Competing in its first outdoor event of the spring, the Niagara Purple Eagles won eight events en route to finishing first place as a team in the Alfred State Invitational on Monday. The Purple Eagles scored 176 points, 72 points more than the second place school, to top the nine-team event which included Canisius and St. Bonaventure.

Meet Marks (Track)

  • Niagara won the first event of the day by taking the 4×100 meter relay. The team of Lilly Lupinetti, Maggie Doyle, Akira Thornton, and Brianna Williams put in a time of 49.75.
  • A pair of freshmen competing in their first event, Nora Klinowski and Erin Murray, finished fifth and eighth, respectively, in the 1500 meter.
  • Sophomore Alex Laubert won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.04. Jenna Minges was fourth (18.88).
  • Two Purple Eagles finished in the top-10 in the 400 meter. Kelly Nichols placed third with a personal record time of 1:02.04, while Rachel Wisely finished 10th.
  • Three Purple Eagles placed in the top-10 in the 100 meter. Akira Thornton won the event with a time of 13.07.Maggie Doyle was fifth (13.49) and Lilly Lupinetti (13.90) was ninth.
  • Freshmen Emma Bagnato and Nora Klinowski finished first and second in the 800 meter. Bagnato ran the event in 2:22.83 and Klinowski finished with a time of 2:29.77. Sarah Grubbs was fourth with a time of 2:30.19.
  • Senior Casey Leader won the 400 meter hurdles (1:10.35) and Maggie Rogers was third (1:18.36).
  • Akira Thornton (fifth), Kelly Nichols (sixth) and Lilly Lupinetti (ninth) all finished in the top 10 in the 200 meter.
  • Freshman Stephanie Webster finished in second place in the 3000 meter with a time of 11:15.47.
  • NU added another relay title by winning the 4×400 relay (4:13.50) consisting of Emma Bagnato, Maggie Doyle, Casey Leader, and Sarah Grubbs.


Meet Marks (Field)

  • Maggie Gerard and Morgan Palmer continued their form from last season with a strong day.
  • Gerard (12.06m) and Palmer (10.86m) finished first and second, respectively, in the shot put. Erin Clark was 10th.
  • Palmer won the discus throw (37.27m), with Gerard (30.35m) placing third and Clark (27.74m) seventh in the 16-person field.
  • Freshman Brianna Williams finished second in the long jump (4.93m). Elizabeth Suhay was ninth with a distance of 4.47 which ties her second longest.
  • Julia Rak (9.73m) and Suhay (9.37m) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the triple jump.
