After a strong first-round effort, the Canisius golf team struggled on Saturday, as the Golden Griffins posted a team score of 319 in the second round of the 2018 MAAC Golf Championship at the Magnolia Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Canisius now sits in eighth-place in the field, with a two-round team score of 618.
 
Sophomore David Hanes and freshman Matt Genaway each shot 78 on Saturday. The two teammates are tied for 16th in the field with two-round scores of 152. Senior Mark Lesinski shot an 80 on Saturday to give him a two-round tally of 157, which ties him for 27th in the field after 36 holes.
 
The Iona Gaels shot 294 as a team to move into first place in the team portion of the conference’s championship event. Iona’s Justin Burkhamer leads the individual portion of the tournament after he shot a two-under score of 70 on Saturday. His combined score of 142 is two strokes better than first-round leader Michael Christifulli of Siena, who finished with a three-over par score of 75 for the day.
 
The third and final round of the 2018 MAAC Golf Championship will be played Sunday, with teams going off the first tee at 7:30 a.m. The final round will be broadcast live on ESPN3, with live coverage starting at 10 a.m.
